Description: This breed, whose history dates back to Japan, is an alert dog. He has erect ears
and a large curled tail. The Akita is known for his devoted love, loyalty and obedience to his owner.
Akitas have been used for a guide for the blind. Helen Keller was among the first to bring an Akita
to the US as her companion. Akitas have been known for their hunting and web-footed swimming abilities.
The Akita barks infrequently, usually as a warning signal.

Care
and Training: A fenced yard and/or daily exercise is recommended. Akitas require very little grooming,
except for routine brushing and combing. Usually sheds twice a year. The Akita's learning rate is high,
intelligence is extremely high.
